Mindfulness, Meditation & Yin Yoga
Come home to yourself in this seven-day residential retreat.
Vida Asana · Puntarenas, Costa Rica
July 25–31, 2027 Six nights · Seven days
With Kathy Páez
If you are a dedicated Yoga practitioner or teacher
ready to deepen the contemplative side of your practice,
join me for seven restorative days in Costa Rica,
where you’ll explore practices that cultivate greater presence,
restore vital energy and help you develop an inner practice you can
continue to return to long after the retreat ends.
This is a retreat for people who want both experience and understanding:
meaningful study, with enough spaciousness to rest,
receive and integrate what they are learning.

Your everyday life is filled with doing…
You rush from one place to another.
You say you want to meditate more, practice more Yoga, contemplate life,
spend less time on your phone, and have more meaningful time with the people around you.
And yet, somehow, another day passes and many of those things remain intentions.
Sometimes what you need is a different set of conditions.
This retreat offers the place, space and time for just that.
Nestled in the jungle on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Vida Asana will be your home for seven days,
while the practices you explore together become gateways on the journey back home to yourself.
There will be plenty of time to rest, and allow what you practice to settle,
as well as opportunities to venture out and experience the beauty of Costa Rica with mindfulness as your companion.
Because moving from doing to being doesn’t mean doing nothing.
Sometimes it means creating the conditions to do the things that bring you closer to yourself.
Coming Home to Yourself
This retreat creates space to explore these practices in the country where my own story began, with enough time to practise, rest and let them become part of a more personal inner life.
This Is an Offering That Is Very Dear to My Heart
On one hand because Costa Rica is my birthplace and motherland, and on the other because the practices I’ll be sharing are the ones that have taken my own Yoga practice beyond anatomy and the physical body.
Yin Yoga, meditation, mindfulness, prāṇāyāma, mantra and other contemplative practices have given me different ways of tending to what happens inside—and this retreat is an opportunity to spend seven days exploring them.

Home Has Always Been a Complicated Word for Me
I was born in Costa Rica, where my mother’s side of the family is from, but I moved around a lot from the time I was little. So while Costa Rica is my birthplace and motherland, the idea of home has never been entirely about a place.
Over the years, I think my Yoga practice has taught me another meaning of home.
There are practices that bring us back to the body. And there are practices that help us come home to ourselves.
Meditation. Mindfulness. Prāṇāyāma. Mantra. Stillness. And, of course, Yin Yoga.
These are some of the practices that have accompanied me beyond anatomy and the physical body, and next year I want to bring them together in the country where my own story began.
For seven days, we’ll gather at Vida Asana in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, for a residential retreat dedicated to practices for inner restoration—with time to practise, study, rest and simply be

Is This You?
You may spend much of your time practising, teaching, preparing and holding space for others.
Imagine having seven days where you don’t need to lead or achieve, but can simply receive.
Through the spacious rhythm of the retreat, you’ll have time to rest, practise and experience what becomes possible when you move from doing towards being.
You may already be interested in meditation or mindfulness, but find it difficult to make these practices part of everyday life.
Imagine having dedicated time to explore them without having to squeeze them into the edges of your schedule.
Through guided meditation, breath, Yin Yoga and contemplative practice, you’ll develop practices you can more naturally return to at home.
You may have explored Yoga deeply through movement, anatomy and the physical body, while feeling curious about what lies beyond it.
Imagine experiencing meditation, mantra, stillness and mindfulness not only as ideas, but as lived practices.
This retreat gives you space to deepen your relationship with Yoga and reconnect with your inner life.
You may also be curious about the “why” behind contemplative practice—not interested in accepting ideas at face value, but in exploring what you experience and drawing your own conclusions.

Vida Asana: A Place to Come Back to Yourself
Vida Asana sits on Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast, in the rustic surfing haven of Playa Hermosa. Surrounded by mature trees, native vegetation, wildlife and a winding river, it offers a natural setting for slowing down and becoming more present.
We’ll practise in open-air jungle shalas, with the sounds and textures of the landscape around us. Between sessions, you can rest by the pool, stretch out on a sun deck, settle into a hammock, walk through the grounds or take a bicycle down to the beach.
The rooms are simple, comfortable and thoughtfully equipped, with private bathrooms, hot water, air conditioning and ceiling fans. They offer a quiet place to settle at the end of the day, while the open-air spaces around them invite you back into the life of the retreat.
Vida Asana is not a place that separates you from its surroundings. It is open to the warmth, the movement of the jungle, the river, the ocean and the slower rhythm of the Pacific coast. That is part of what makes it such a fitting place for this retreat.
Your Room at Vida Asana
Your accommodation at Vida Asana is designed to give you a comfortable place to rest and settle into the rhythm of the retreat.
Shared Occupancy
Stay in a room shared with one other participant. Each room has a private bathroom, air conditioning, hot water and a ceiling fan.
Private Occupancy
A private room with your own bathroom, air conditioning, hot water and ceiling fan.
Room availability and roommate arrangements will be confirmed during registration.
Food That Supports Your Practice
Food will be part of the rhythm of our days at Vida Asana: fresh, nourishing and prepared with care.
You’ll have time to enjoy relaxed meals, good conversation and the simple pleasure of not having to organise every detail of your day. We’ll share three mostly organic vegetarian meals each day, made with ingredients from local gardens and neighbouring farms.
The menu is predominantly raw vegan, with a variety of colourful, satisfying dishes, fresh fruit, vegetable-based meals and vegan sauces. Pescatarian options are also available. Coffee, tea, filtered water and fresh juices will be provided throughout the day.
My hope is that meals become another opportunity to slow down, receive nourishment and enjoy being together around the table. Further details about meal inclusions and dietary requirements will be confirmed in the registration information.
Your Schedule
The final schedule will allow for both structure and spaciousness. A typical rhythm may include:
- Morning practice with sound, breath and meditation.
- Dharma talks and inquiry rooted in the Bhagavadgītā and other sacred texts.
- Yin or Yin Yang practice, including themes related to emotion and organ health.
- Free time to rest, reflect, swim, walk or enjoy the venue.
- Guided relaxation, chants and songs, including the possibility of a Yin Yoga lullaby.
- Time for community rest, conversation and integration.
The purpose is not to fill every hour. It is to create a rhythm in which study, practice and restoration can support one another.
The intention is to offer both substance and spaciousness: enough study to engage a curious mind, and enough open time for the learning to settle into experience.
Please note that this is just an overview and the final schedule with ALL details will be provided before our retreat.
Residential Retreat + Optional 50-Hour Pathway
This is first and foremost a seven-day residential retreat.
For practitioners and Yoga teachers who would also like to complete a 50-hour certificate, an additional online programme of study and practice will be available separately from the retreat investment.
The online component is designed to help you establish and sustain these contemplative practices in daily life, without turning your seven days in Costa Rica into an intensive training.
A 50-hour Yoga Alliance Continuing Education pathway will be available as an optional addition.

The Gifts of the Retreat
This retreat is an invitation to come home to yourself through the fuller experience of Yoga.
You’ll have the space to:

- Deepen the contemplative side of Yoga through meditation, breath, mantra, stillness and inquiry.
- Experience mindfulness not as another idea to understand, but as a way of meeting yourself, your practice and the people around you.

- Explore Yoga beyond anatomy and the physical body, opening into its emotional, philosophical and subtle dimensions.
- Rest without needing to justify your rest or turn the retreat into another act of doing.
- Be a student again, even if you regularly teach others, and receive from the practice in a new way.
- Return home with a deeper sense of connection and simple practices you can continue to live with.
- Explore meditation through both experience and understanding, discovering what genuinely supports your own practice.
- Move from collecting more techniques to developing a personal practice you can actually sustain in everyday life.

I’m Your Retreat Host, Kathy Páez…
I was born in Costa Rica and, as a third-culture child, intermittently called it home while growing up. But it wasn’t until recently that I began to understand just how deeply this place had shaped me.
I came to Yoga in my early twenties, initially looking for a way to meet anxiety, low-self esteem, and the busyness of my mind. What began as a personal practice gradually became a path of study, teaching and discovery that has now accompanied me for more than two decades.
My journey took me from Costa Rica to Barcelona, and from teaching regular classes to studying the deeper dimensions of Yoga. Along the way, I found teachers and teachings that changed the direction of my work, especially Paul and Suzee Grilley and their functional approach to Yin Yoga. I later became a long-term assistant to Paul Grilley, an experience that continues to inform the way I understand the body, practice and inner life.
Over the years, I’ve studied functional anatomy, skeletal variation at dissection labs, Sanskrit at the University of Barcelona, Yoga philosophy, prāṇāyāma, chanting, mudrā and chakra meditation. I’m the author of Yin Yoga: Potential in Stillness, the founder of 2Y Functional Yoga School and an anatomy teacher trainer at Mount Madonna Center.
But my work is not only about what I’ve studied or the teachers I’ve learned from. It is about bringing these different strands together in a way that feels clear, grounded and alive: the physical body, the subtle body and the part of us that is always listening beneath the surface. I also often refer to it as leading and living with soul & science.
Returning to Costa Rica to share this retreat feels meaningful to me. It is an opportunity to come back to a place that holds part of my story, and to invite you into a practice that has taught me, again and again, how to come home to myself.
I look forward to practising with you there.

What Students Say About Our Trainings
Functional Yin Yoga Foundations
“For those of us who come from other Yin Yoga trainings, I found this functional approach to Yin Yoga totally refreshing, while aligned with Kathy’s teacher, Paul Grilley. We were able to review his firsthand teachings, such as ‘the Sutras and the Dances of the Grilleys,’ through the practice of Yin.
Among the many things I learned, I will hold dear the Yin Yoga practices based on Kathy’s original MANDALASANA pose cheat sheet and her super-interesting selection of rebound poses.”
— Carmen de la Rosa, Switzerland
Intentional Sequencing for Yin Yoga
“This course was everything I hoped it would be and more! I am still going through the bonus materials. I highly recommend this course to everyone.”
— Gilda Mulero, New York
2Y Trident Pathway
“I have been honoured to study with so many teachers in my life, but there has always been a gap in mentorship. Once I finish a training, I don’t know who I can ask my questions, who can hold my hand, who can call me out, who can show me the mirror sometimes, and who can also hold me. Kathy has provided this space for me with this membership.”
— Ayesha Mehboob, Pakistan
2Y Compass Mentorship
“Working with Kathy was a turning point in my teaching path. Her mentorship gave me the clarity and direction I needed to finalize and launch my book La Única Constante, and to position myself with more confidence as a meditation teacher.
I’ve also trained with Kathy since 2011, and I continue to value her ability to distill what matters most with precision and wisdom. It has been a truly transformative experience.”
— Álvaro Almetlla, Spain

2Y Trident Pathway
“Yoga makes so much sense when guided from a functional point of view, to then delve into the depth of our body through the network of fascia and meridians, and start a conversation with our nervous system and our psyche.
You are one of the few teachers to address the physical and the subtle so well.”
— Astrid Sultan
