In this 2-hour online and recorded workshop with Joe Barnett, we will contemplate, discuss, and practice Patañjali’s Abhiniveśa (fear of death), Atisha’s Nine Contemplations of Death, and the practice of Yin Yoga.
These ancient and modern teachings have the power to bring us into a better relationship with Yama, the god of death, who is always near, yet rarely engaged with kindness and compassion.
Whether you are a dedicated practitioner or a yoga teacher, this workshop also offers a unique opportunity to experience how an experienced teacher thoughtfully weaves philosophy, storytelling, and contemplation into a Functional Yin Yoga class.

About Joe
Joe Barnett, E-RYT 500, has been teaching for over two decades and holds certifications in Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, and Acro Yoga.
Joe’s primary focus of study is Functional Anatomy for Yoga and all forms of movement.
He is a senior student and primary assistant to Paul Grilley, his mentor of 25 years and one of the leading voices behind the modern understanding of Yin Yoga and Functional Anatomy.
Throughout the years, Joe has taught internationally, assisted Paul Grilley while also presenting workshops and trainings at studios and conferences around the world.
Most recently, Joe has been integrating Yin Yoga with ancient and modern techniques for better sleeping, dreaming, dying, and living. His workshops explore the power of surrender and the rebound of rest, restoration, and rejuvenation.
“Joe Barnett has been our friend and assistant for many years. He has two qualities that make him an excellent presenter: he knows the anatomical principles and he relates to people in a sympathetic manner. His presentations are unhurried, hands-on demonstrations; this is the easiest way to absorb these ideas.”
